A reflection on "the role of Christians and Catholic schools in the European public area; about their contributions and the relationships between the Church and Catholic schools". The European bishops in charge of Catholic schools will talk about that at the meeting promoted in Rome, from 30th November to 2nd December, by the Commission "Catechesis, School and University" of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE), in collaboration with the European Committee of Catholic Education (CEEC) and with support by the Italian Bishops’ Conference. The subject of the meeting is "The Catholic school within the European public area". "At first it is written in a note made known today by CCEE -, the participants will examine and debate the situation of the Catholic school in various European countries, trying to focus on the main problems and the most remarkable questions. Later on, they will debate the challenges relating to Catholic education in Europe today, and to the contributions paid by CEEC and the Bishops’ Conferences". Participants: Msgr. Pero Sudar, auxiliary bishop of Sarajevo; Piet Raes, university teacher of philosophy; Msgr. Diego Coletti, bishop of Como; and Card. Zenon Grocholewski, prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education. The results of the European Research on the Teaching of Religion, promoted by CCEE, will be presented.
