The right to life, from the time of conception to natural death, is a right that keeps being violated, even now. This was said by mgr. Celestino Migliore, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, as he spoke on October 28th during the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly in New York, about the protection and promotion of human rights. "Over the last sixty years said mgr. Migliore , remarkable progress has been made in some areas. Yet, even today, the individuals are unable to assert even some of their most basic rights. The centre of these rights is the fundamental right to life, from the time of conception to natural death. It keeps being violated in all the corners of the earth". Mgr. Migliore recalled that last year the UN Commission for the protection and promotion of human rights had asked, "for the very first time", for a moratorium on the use of death penalty. "This resolution said mgr. Migliore is a step forward, towards a wider respect of the right to life; yet, it is only the beginning of the efforts that must be made to create a society in which life will be respected in all its developmental stages".
