"The girl judged as ‘guilty’ of adultery and stoned to death in Somalia last week was 13 years old, not 23", as opposed to what had been reported by the press: it has been pointed out by Amnesty International in a release. Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow had arrived in Chisimaio three months ago from the refugee camp of Hagardeer, Kenya. In the Somali port town, she had been raped by three men and had gone to the “al Shabab” militiamen who rule over the area asking for justice. The consequence of her report was that she was arrested, charged with adultery and stoned to death. None of her three rapists was arrested. According to some eyewitnesses contacted by Amnesty International, the girl "struggled with her executioners and was forcibly dragged into the stadium. Here the girl was buried and the 50 men in charge of her execution began to hit her, using stones that had just been unloaded from a lorry". "This girl reads the release from Amnesty International met a horrible death, ordered by the armed opposition groups that rule over Chisimaio: one more offence to human rights, committed by the protagonists of the Somali conflict, which proves once again how important it is for the international community to take action, through an international commission of enquiry".
