The World Youth Day (WYD) of Sydney seems to be arousing several callings to priesthood in England and Wales. This has been stated at the yearly meeting of the directors of the diocesan centres for vocations that was held in the seminary of Ushaw, in northern England, from 27th to 30th October, focussed on the impact of the WYD on vocations in the country. As reported by the press office of the English Bishops, "The Day of Sydney did not only attract interest to callings to priesthood, but also helped the young admit that we are all called to holiness and consider their calling an integral part of their journey of faith. Many dioceses have taken to the WYD their seminarians, who thus could share their choice with the other pilgrims. A substantial number of those who have applied to be admitted to a seminary over the last few months are precisely young people and teenagers". "The WYD was such a significant experience in the life of our young people that, in response to their request to keep sharing their faith, we have set up a new group for vocations for the adolescents of our dioceses, which has been called ‘Quo vadis’ and has already brought twenty people to its first meeting", said father Stephen Langridge, director of the vocation centre of the diocese of Southwark, London.” “
