"Transplantation abuses and transplantation trafficking, often involving innocent people such as children, should find the scientific and medical community readily united in rejecting them as unacceptable practices". That was the strong warning issued by the Pope today. The Pope received in hearing the participants in the International Congress "A gift for life. Remarks on the donation of organs". Such "unacceptable practices", went on Benedict XVI, "should be fiercely condemned as abominable". Moreover, according to the Holy Father, "the same ethical principle must be confirmed when they want to achieve the creation and the destruction of human embryos for therapeutic purposes". "The simple conception of regarding the embryo as ‘therapeutic material’ actually pointed out the Pope – contradicts the cultural, civil and ethical foundations of the dignity of the person". The Pope took also into consideration the technique of organ transplanting: "One may donate he confirmed just in case there is never a serious danger for one’s health or one’s identity, and always for a morally sound and proportionate reason". "Any organ sale logics, including the adoption of discriminatory or utilitarian criteria he concluded would be highly in contrast with the implicit meaning of the gift, and they would go out of the game themselves, becoming morally illicit acts".
