It will be "a place for history and the future, in which the European project may keep growing". Hans-Gert Poettering, president of the EU Parliament, confirms the goals of the "House of European History", the project he launched himself during his swearing-in speech on 13 February 2007. Now, this project is making its first official steps. The presidential office of the European House actually unanimously approved the initiative and appointed an Expert Committee to develop the project guidelines. In fact, the Committee, composed of 9 experts, such as researchers, academicians and museologists from different countries, has already been working for a few months to develop the draft project which has been presented in Strasbourg today. "One of the goals of the House is to learn more about one’s history states the document for the Europeans of all generations, so as to contribute to a better understanding of the development of the Europe of today and tomorrow". That’s why "this building should become a place that epitomises the idea of Europe". The House will be based in Brussels (it will not be up and running until 2014), and Parliament "is looking explains Poettering -, along with the EU and Belgian authorities, for an appropriate place to build it on".
