In his speech to the Vatican Television Centre staff, the Pope also suggested a future perspective of commitment in the field of mass media. He said: "The images you have collected over the years, and that you are jealously keeping, are making of your archive a precious resource, not only for the production of current or future television programmes, but also for the history of the Church and of the Holy See." Referring to the spread of the use of Internet, he said the Church itself must not "keep out of the spaces in which a number of young people are surfing to look for answers and for the meaning of their life." Then he encouraged to "find the ways to transmit, in new forms, voices and images of hope through that web our world is more and more dependent on. Then he spoke of "convergence" and "synergies" between the different "media", highlighting that "today Internet requires an increasing integration of written, audio and visual communication and is posing the challenge to enlarge and intensify the forms of collaboration between the media which are serving the Holy See."
