After pointing out, as to the Episcopal Synod on the Word, that "God’s Word is there, so that we get close to one another", Benedict XVI wanted to expound on the meaning of the World Youth Days: "Especially the phenomenon of the World Youth Days he said is increasingly analysed, in the attempt to understand this sort, as it were, of youth culture. Never had Australia seen so many people from all continents as during the World Youth Day, not even for the Olympic Games. And while they had feared before that the appearance of such a huge crowd of young people could create some disturbances to peace and order, traffic congestion, hindrances in everyday life, violence or opportunities for using drugs, all these fears turned out to be groundless". Then the Pope stated that the WYD "was a feast of joy a joy that eventually attracted reluctant people as well: in the end, nobody felt harassed. The days have become a feast for everyone, actually only then did people fully realise what a feast is an event in which everyone is, as it were, beside oneself, beyond oneself, and just like that with oneself and with other people".
