"I confirm the need and the urgency, in nowadays’ context, to create, in culture and in the civil and political society, the conditions which are necessary to be fully aware of the indefeasible value of natural moral law". Those words were spoken by Benedict XVI today, while he received in hearing the participants in the plenary session of the International Theological Commission, which is working on the document "In search of a universal ethic: a new look on natural law". "Thanks also to the study which you have started on this fundamental topic stated the Pope; it will be clear that the natural law is the real guarantee offered to each of us to live in freedom and respect, to have one’s dignity as a person respected, to feel protected against any ideological manipulation or against any abuse carried out on the basis of the law of the strongest". "We all know well that in a world shaped by natural sciences he added the metaphysical concept of natural law is nearly absent or incomprehensible". Moreover, "on realizing its fundamental importance for our societies, and for human life, the following concept should necessarily be re-proposed and rendered intelligible in the context of our thought: human being themselves include a moral message as well as an indication for the paths of the law", pointed out the Pope.
