THE YEAR OF INNOVATION: THE FIRST "EUROPEAN MEETING" IN PARIS TODAY

"Launching a process to make innovation more dynamic in Europe, as a response to the economic and financial crisis, in the context of globalisation": this is the purpose of the first "European Meeting on Innovation", taking place in Paris today. Promoted by the six-month French presidency just three weeks before the beginning of 2009, which has been proclaimed by the EU the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, the meeting, states a note, responds to the "will to renew the Lisbon Strategy: to turn the economy of knowledge, i.e. research, innovation and the economic promotion of research, into a propeller of Europe’s development". Ways to improve the funding of young innovative businesses; promote public research; deploy all the required resources: human, financial and political, to boost creativity and innovation; regional policies: all this will be the focus of the reflections of researchers, academicians, businessmen, intellectual property experts, bankers, politicians and civil servants.
