ACLI: SPE SALVI, THE SOCIAL IMPACT OF THE ENCYCLICAL

In preparation to the XXIII National Congress: "Migrating from the Twentieth century. Living the present. Serving the future. Acli in the XXI century", the Christian Associations of Italian Workers (Acli) have devoted a day today to reflecting over Pope Benedict XVI’s latest encyclical.” “Migrating – says Andrea Olivero, national president of Acli – means those who migrate because they hope. And the hope of man, hope in a ‘good and happy life’, although different from Christian hope, can take inspiration from it. Indeed: the Encyclical explains us that salvation is never personal, individualistic, but involves the value of communion and sociality. This gives Acli a clue to reappraise economy and politics in the light of solidarity and justice. That’s why our commitment will become more effective in training and services for immigrants, for poverty and for the family".” “"So far, the social impact of the Spe Salvi has not been adequately understood – went on Andrea Olivero. – A social impact lies in the fact that after the Encyclical we feel a generational task has been given us by the certainty that those who hope do not escape history to take refuge in the private den of their own happiness, but live fruitfully. The Christian life is not a preparation to active life, but is an ongoing, daily commitment".” “
