HOLY SEE: INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EXCESSIVE CLINICAL INTERVENTION AND ABANDONMENT OF PATIENTS

The doctor, when faced with a terminal patient and divided between excessive clinical intervention and the abandonment of the patient, "What to do in these circumstances? Is there a limit to the moral duty of preserving life?" About these questions, the Papal pro-Life Academy will hold an International Conference in the Vatican on 25th and 26th February, about "At the side of a terminal patient or a dying person: ethical and practical guidance". The issues and reflection of the Conference will be disclosed to the press at a press conference that will take place in the Vatican Newsroom on Thursday 21st February, in the presence of mgr. Elio Sgreccia, president of the Papal pro-Life Academy. "The current headlines – reads the presentation of the event – draw to the attention of both individuals and public opinion, all the time, and sometimes dramatically, the problems of clinical intervention and vital support". The new, improved clinical intervention techniques, as well as offering better chances of survival and better health conditions for many people, can sometimes even worsen a patient’s suffering". Professors from all over the world will speak about these problems through scientific, anthropological, ethical and deontological reflections. (Info: 06/69882423)
