ORTHODOX: THE PATRIARCHATE OF MOSCOW SAYS NO TO "LIBERAL CHRISTIANITY"

"Liberal Christianity will not survive long", and the "politically correct" in the Christian sphere "is doomed to die out". This is the harsh opinion spoken by the delegate of the Russian Orthodox Church at the European institutions, bishop Hilarion Alfeyev, to the World Council of the Churches, which from 13th to 20th February has been in Geneva for the winter session of the Central Committee. "I would like – began the Russian bishops as he spoke to the delegates of the 349 Protestant, Anglican and Orthodox Churches of Wcc – to warn you against the danger of liberal Christianity". This issue has also divided the Christian communities for decades, so that nowadays "we can no longer speak of a Christian morality, because the standards promoted by "traditional" and "liberal" Christians are extremely different, and the gulf between these two wings of contemporary Christianity is growing fast". The Russian delegate’s all-out attack is full of examples. "We are hearing from some Christian leaders – went on bishop Alfeyed – that marriage between a man and a woman is no longer the only possible option for setting up a Christian family, that there may be different kinds of couples, and that the Church must be inclusive enough as to accept these unconventional lifestyles and give them a solemn blessing".
