KOSOVO: UNGARO (ITALY), THE "RISKS" FOR "THE FUTURE OF THE COUNTRY" (2)

"For an area which over the last few years has become a worldwide landmark for counterfeiting designer clothes and for the drugs market, there’s the risk we might see – just because of its geographical location – a proliferation of more or less illegal dealings, which might turn the Balkan State into an attractive country for international mafia organisations". This is another "risk" that Ungaro sees in the future of Kosovo, after its proclamation of independence from Belgrade. "Some – adds Ungaro – already see Kosovo as a basis for Islamic terrorism, worried about its many mosques and quite a few madrasahs (legal-religious schools, editor’s note), which keep being built all over the country, thanks to substantial funding from the Arab world". Now, concludes the expert, "after the exhilaration for the independence, Europe and the United States, which in the last few months have been unable to make Serbians and Kosovaris sit at the same table for as long as it took to find a common, shared solution for the region, must feel as their priority to take action, so that in a not too distant future an effective economic development may take place, in an atmosphere of genuine reconciliation while protecting all the sides who live in the country".
