CHURCHES OF EUROPE: MEETING WITH THE SLOVENIAN EU PRESIDENCY IN LJUBLJANA TODAY

According to a by now consolidated practice, the representatives of the Churches in Europe are meeting the Slovenian presidency of the European Union in Ljubljana today. Late in the morning, they are going to be welcomed by Slovenia’s Prime Minister and current EU Prime Minister, Janez Jasna. The exchange of ideas, above all, will concern the priorities of the very Slovenian presidency: dialogue of the Churches with the EU; the intercultural dialogue year 2008; the social European agenda (employment and flexysecurity, social agenda review); migration and asylum policy. The Churches will be represented by Msgr. Noel Treanor, secretary general of COMECE (Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community); Rudiger Noll, director of the "Church and Society" Commission of CEC/KEK (Conference of European Churches); the bishop Geza Emisa and Alesander Kercmar for the Lutheran Evangelic Church of Slovenia, and, finally, Msgr. Anton Stres and Father Andrej Saje for the Slovenian Catholic Bishops’ Conference.
