ECONOMY: EU SUPPORT TO SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES TO FOSTER EXPORT, COMPETITION AND EMPLOYMENT

Removing bureaucratic and tariff obstacles; guaranteeing respect for international rules on intellectual property; promoting a multilateral agreement fostering market access; improving assistance to exporting enterprises: those guidelines were indicated to the Commission by the Parliament today. They are meant to foster the actions of EU enterprises in world markets, especially the actions of small and medium-sized businesses. In Strasbourg, the parliament approved a document meeting the Executive communication entitled "Global Europe". The strengthened presence in traditional sale markets, and the conquest of new markets with products and services supplied by the enterprises of the 27 member countries would be meant "to strengthen the role of the Union in the world", to "safeguard the existing jobs and to create new ones". The report approved in the Hemicycle, drawn up by Spanish MEP Ignasi Guardans Cambó, upholds "the preparation of specific initiatives to tackle trading obstacles in the sectors of services, public contracts, investments and intellectual property rights, customs procedures for State aids". It also asks for "rules in the field of competition, and their adequate application for third-party countries".
