HUMAN RIGHTS IN EUROPE: ITALIAN NPOs, TWO DOCUMENTS AGAINST RACIAL DISCRIMINATION

Two joint documents to confirm "the urgency of establishing an independent National Institution, in Italy, for defending human rights, in accordance with the Principles of Paris", and to point out "the racist attitudes of some States, which cannot be not justified with respect to human rights. Human rights are not just a Third World problem". The documents are going to be shown in Geneva tomorrow, 20th February, at the ‘United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, by a delegation of 11 representatives of both the Committee for the promotion and defence of human rights, including 74 Italian NPOs and associations, and the CRC Workshop (UNO Convention on the Rights of the Child and Youth), including 62 NPOs. The right occasion will the 72nd round of CERD (UNO Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination), which is going to examine the report by the Italian government on the carrying out of the Convention on the subject. "In spite of the Italian political instability, the general indifference of institutions, and the barriers due to the presumption to be out of the question – stated the two NPO networks, – on the other hand, the best expression of the civil society, united through a network, is constant commitment to the development of a well-participated democracy, really taking care of promoting and defending all rights".
