The Catholic Church in Kosovo supports the creation of the Kosovo State, but it is a priority to guarantee the rights of the Serbian minority. The path for reaching this goal is forgiveness with reconciliation. In short, Msgr. Dodë Gjergji, apostolic administrator of Kosovo, stated that in his speech at the European Parliament in Strasbourg today. The process of formation of the Kosovo State, supported by the European Union, must guarantee stability, peace and the rights of minorities, "of the Serbians, above all", ha declared. "In general, the Albanians are in favour of Europe and the Christians, because they cannot and don’t want to deny our common values, created during history", explained Msgr. Gjergji. It is a reality "enabling a sort of traditional and moderate Islamism, openly and particularly oriented to human values as well as the Western society". The bishop illustrated the role of the Catholic Church in the ecumenical dialogue. "We are seeking ecumenical dialogue with the Serbian Orthodox Church, since we are both Christian Churches. In the past, we have been quite successful. But after the 1999 War we have no longer managed to keep this level of communication, because today the Serbian Orthodox Church is still politically marked", he noticed. (To be continued)
