BALKANS: JEREMIC (SERBIA), "ANY ACTION BY PRISTINA IS UNWARRANTED, BUT WE ARE PREPARED TO NEGOTIATE" (2)

"The international law is on our side", explains Vuk Jeremic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgrade, from Strasbourg. "What happened in Pristina on Sunday is a serious offence, an act of hostility against Serbia, which can threaten the stability of the region and world peace. Tomorrow, other secessionist regions might break the territorial integrity of other countries, even in Europe". And he mentions Cyprus, as well as Ossetia. Similar problems might loom ahead for Spain, Romania, Greece. "By acknowledging what happened in Pristina, other states have breached our territorial integrity and our sovereignty". Could the Council of Europe or the UN might acknowledge Kosovo? "Just today, I spoke to the Ministers of the CoE – explains Jeremic – to explain that we will not accept such possibility. And I am sure there will be no seat for Kosovo" in the Glass Palace. Might the EU offer you, in return, a quick membership? "We are not going to swap part of our country for a membership of the EU. Our future is in Europe, but not on these conditions". (continued)
