BENEDICT XVI: TO THE BISHOPS OF EL SALVADOR, "RIVIVE THE FAMILY PASTORAL"

"The people of Salvador is characterized by lively faith and deep religious sentiment", thanks also to witnesses such as Msgr. Oscar Arnulfo Romero, but also for their need to confront "serious needs": today, on receiving in audience the bishops of the Republic of El Salvador in ad limina visit, Benedict XVI depicted the situation of the country: "Owing to poverty – stated the Holy Father, – many people are forced to migrate in search of better living conditions. This often generates bad consequences for the stability of marriage and family. I also know about the efforts you are making to promote reconciliation and peace in your country, thus overcoming the painful facts of the past". On recalling the document of the Salvador bishops on violence, which is so widespread in the country, because of social plagues such as "poverty, lack of education, the progressive loss of the values which have always forged the Salvador soul, and family break-up", the Pope pointed out "the need to revive and strengthen an adequate and effective family pastoral in all dioceses, which may give the young a solid training from the affective and spiritual point of view, helping them to discover the beauty of God’s plan on human love, and allowing them to live the real values of marriage and family with coherence".
