BENEDICT XVI: ANGELUS, "PEACE IN KENYA AND IRAQ"

Peace in Kenya and Iraq: it was invoked by the Pope after yesterday’s Angelus when he asked for "reconciliation, justice and peace" in Kenya, wishing for "a quick solution to be found to the conflict, which has already made too many victims". "Evil, with its charge of pain, seems to know no limits in Iraq", went on the Holy Father, recalling "the very sad news of the last few days" and invoking "God’s peace on that hard-hit population". Then, again, the subject of the family, the focus of the Angelus prayer: "It is within the family that one learns the lexicon of civil cohabitation and discovers the human values", highlighted the Pope, who quoted the Lunar Year festivities in which the Asian families will be involved. The Pope wished, "let them preserve and promote these beautiful, fruitful traditions of family life, to the benefit of their nations and of those countries in which they are living". Then, a special invitation to his diocese, which is starting the "Life and Family Week": "I invite all the parents to rediscover the greatness and beauty of the educational mission. Yes, educating is very exacting, but it is exciting! Make your children experience, since the youngest age, that closeness that is evidence of love, donate yourselves, for them to open themselves up to their neighbours and to the world, serenely and generously".
