BRAZIL: BROTHERHOOD CAMPAIGN 2008; BENEDICT XVI, "FIGHTING ALL THREATS TO LIFE"” “” “(2)” “

At the beginning of the 2008 Campaign, the Pope hopes that "the different requests of the civil society are meant to make common cause with the people’s will, which in most cases rejects all the forms that are against the ethical needs for justice and respect of human life, from its beginning to its natural end". The Campaign is launched in Brasilia today (at 3pm, local time), by the secretary general of the Brazilian Bishops’ Conference, Msgr. Dimas Lara Barbosa. It will take place in all the Brazilian dioceses during Lent, to "induce the Church and society to defend and promote human life from its conception until its natural death". Among the goals which have to be reached, there are the following ones: "strengthening the family as the main place for life defence, through responsible maternity and paternity, and by welcoming the weak and the people who suffer"; "promoting the culture of life through education, for the full development of affectionateness, co-responsibility between man and woman, and solidarity among everybody"; "working together with people of different cultural positions and different religions, trying to promote life"; "proposing and fostering public policies guaranteeing life promotion and defence"; "developing the critical conscience of the people before the structures generating death, and promoting the manipulation and trading of human life".
