BENEDICT XVI: "MAN WILL ALWAYS BE MAN", EVEN IF IN "EMBRYO" OR "IN A COMA" (2)” “

On one side, went on the Pope, "we understand that we cannot hope in an indefinite extension of the biological life, yet on the other side we wish to drink from the spring of life itself to enjoy an endless life". "Drinking from the spring of life – explained the Holy Father – means entering into a communion with this infinite love that is the spring of life. In meeting Christ, we come into contact, or actually into a communion, with life itself and we have already crossed the threshold of death, because we are in contact with the true life, beyond the biological life". The Eucharist then "as the medicine of immortality", as it used to be called by the Fathers of the Church: "In the Eucharist – said the Pope –, we come into contact, or actually into a communion, with the resurrected body of Christ, we enter the space of the resurrected life, of eternal life. We come into a communion with this body that is enlivened by the immortal life, and we are thus, already and forever, in the space of life itself. This is the true life". Therefore, from the perspective of the Gospel, "an abundant life does not mean consuming everything, being able to do all one likes. In that case, we would live for the dead things, we would live for death. An abundant life means being in communion with the true life, with the infinite love. That’s how we really enter the abundance of life and become the carriers of life for other people as well".
