EUROPE: PHOTO EXHIBITION AT THE VATICAN ON THE "ROME-SANTIAGO/SANTIAGO-ROME" PILGRIMAGE

"Rome-Santiago/Santiago-Rome. Routes, signs and memories of pilgrimage in Europe": it is the theme of the photographic exhibition which is being opened tomorrow, March 13th, at 6 pm, at the Arm of Charlemagne, in the Vatican. The way with its landscapes, the churches, the pilgrimage buildings, the bridges marking the route, the “hospitals” welcoming wayfarers are the subjects of the pictures of the exhibition promoted by the Regional Administration of the Independent Community of Galicia (Spain), whose capital is Santiago de Compostela, together with the National Committee for the celebrations of the 5th centenary of the foundation of the Basilica of St. Peter. The exhibition, open until April 13th, was organized by Paolo Caucci von Saucken, president of the Italian Centre of Compostela Studies, and by the Foundation for the assets and the artistic activities of the Church. "By means of examples and fascinations, the photographic exhibition is meant to grasp essential aspects of this great civilization: now, as it once was, the pilgrim gives sense, meaning and unity to the whole", commented Caucci. On the occasion of the exhibition, events of scientific and popular character will be promoted, including the presentation of the translation into Italian of the "Liber Sancti Jacobi", the medieval summa of pilgrimage to Santiago, by Professor Cinzia Bernardi.” ” ” “
