BISHOP ABDUCTED IN IRAQ: SOLIDARITY AND PRAYER FROM THE AUSTRALIAN BISHOPS

The Catholic Bishops of New South Wales, Australia, condemned the abduction of the archbishop of Mosul, mgr. Paulos Faraj Rahho, abducted on 29th February, and asked that he be immediately released. During today’s meeting, the Bishops listened to, from the voice of mgr. Gabriel Kassab, archbishop of the Chaldeian Catholics of Australia, the story of the abduction and the shock it caused in all Iraqis, both Christian and Muslim, both in Iraq and abroad. Card. Pell, states a release from the newsroom of the archdiocese of Sydney published today, expressed the solidarity of the Australian Catholics with the Iraqi Church. "Abduction – stated the cardinal – is a horrible crime, and it is even more deplorable if it concerns the respected leader of a community. I ask that he be immediately released". The Bishops of New South Wales have launched a time of prayer all through the Holy Week to ask for the release of mgr. Rahho and peace in Iraq.
