MGR. RAHHO: BENEDICT XVI, "A MAN OF PEACE AND DIALOGUE. LET HIS EXAMPLE SUPPORT THE IRAQIS"

"A man of peace and dialogue". This is how Benedict XVI defined this morning mgr. Paulos Faraj Rahho, archbishop of Mossul of the Chaldeians, during a celebration for the repose of his soul before a delegation of the Chaldeian community. "He was particularly fond of the poor and the disabled – said the Pope –, for whose physical and psychical assistance he had set up an association named ‘Joy and Charity’, designed to promote such people and support their families, many of whom had learnt from him not to hide their relatives and see Christ in them". As to this, Benedict XVI expressed the wish, "let his example support all Iraqis, both Christians and Muslims, to build a peaceful cohabitation, based on brotherhood and respect". With reference to the Passion of Christ, the Pope stated that "mgr. Rahho took his cross and followed the Lord Jesus Christ, thus contributing to bring law on to his tormented country and all over the world, bearing witness to the truth". "As the beloved archbishop Paulos committed himself unstintingly to serve his people – he concluded –, likewise Christians should persevere in their commitment to building a peaceful society along the way of progress of peace".” ” ” “
