Bertone is the Vatican Secretary of State who is presiding over the ceremony at the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, for the exequies of Chiara Lubich. Bertone took the participation of Pope Benedict XVI in the "great sorrow of his spiritual family". On recalling "the last months and days" of Chiara Lubich, "which were very hard because of the disease which became more and more serious, and deprived her of any physical energy", he said: "Chiara walked through the final stage of her earthly pilgrimage accompanied with prayer and with the affection of her people, who embraced her in a great and continuous way. In the heart of the night, the last ‘yes’ for the mystical spouse of her soul, the resurrected, abandoned Jesus, was weak but resolute". (To be continued)
