BENEDICT XVI: AUDIENCE, "STARTING FROM CHRIST AGAIN FOR A WORLD BUILT ON PEACE"

"Divisions, violence never have the last word in the events of history". It was said by the Pope today, as he devoted today’s catechesis for the general audience to the rites of the Easter Triduum in the run-up to Easter. "These days – said Benedict XVI – enliven in us the great hope again: Christ Crucified has resurrected and has won the world. So, we have to start from Him again to build a world based on peace, justice and love". According to the Holy Father, "remembering the mysteries of Christ also means living in a deep and sympathetic adhesion to the topicality of history, in the belief that what he celebrate is a lively, topical reality". Hence the Pope’s invitation to bring "into our prayer the dramatic character of the facts and situations that these days are troubling so many of our brothers all over the world". "The suggestive rites of Maundy Thursday, Holy Friday, the silence full of prayer of the Holy Saturday and the solemn Easter Vigil – said the Pontiff – offer us the opportunity to meditate on the meaning and value of our Christian calling, which comes from the Easter mystery, and to embody it by faithfully following Christ in every circumstance, as He did, up to generously giving up our own life". Then, the Pope gave to the devotees "his most heart-felt wishes for a happy, Holy Easter". (continued)
