The Cuban Church rejoices for the approach of the first beatification on Cuban soil, in the diocese of Camagüey, due in November 2008. The ruling of the Congregation for the Causes of the Saints, which attributes a miracle to the Revered Servant of God Josè Olallo Valdés, was actually issued on 15th March. Father Valdès is a professed priest of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, born in Havana on 12th February 1820 and died in Camagüey on 7th March 1889. "He will be the second blessed soul for the Cuban Church writes the postulator, father Felix Lisazo Berruete and the first one to be beatified in Cuba, a great ecclesial event for the Cuban Church". The attribution of the miracle and the issuance of the ruling, explains the postulator, "gives us the go-ahead so we can start organising the beatification ceremony" which will take place "soon in the city of Camagüey, Cuba". For the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, the event "is a cause for joy, because this new model of holiness confirms that the deep experience of our spirituality of mercy and hospitality are a path to holiness".
