BENEDICT XVI: TO THE YOUNG, "BE ENTHUSIASTIC PROTAGONISTS IN THE CHURCH AND IN SOCIETY"

"Be enthusiastic protagonists in the Church and in society". This is the greeting made by the Pope to the young who at the end of today’s general audience in Saint Peter’s Square applauded him for a long time, saying his name out loud, so much that Benedict XVI stated, off the cuff: "I can see you are enthusiastic!". Speaking in particular to the young boys and girls who had come to Rome from the parishes and oratories of the archdiocese of Milan, the Holy Father told them: "You, who make your profession of faith this year, commit yourselves to building the civilisation of love, founded on Christ who died and resurrected for everybody". Among his greetings to the Italian devotees, the Pope gave a "very fond" greeting to the devotees of the Roman parish of All Saints, who celebrate this year the centenary of the foundation of their parish, "entrusted to San Luigi Orione by my predecessor Saint Pius X", recalled Benedict XVI, who wished everyone "to be always the faithful witnesses of Christ" and to "help spread everywhere the joy of following His Gospel to build together a more fraternal society". At the end of today’s general audience, the Pope will receive the president of the UN General Assembly, Sergjan Kerim.
