"Bringing into focus the current scenario of the Islamic community" in our country, as well as "finding new pastoral issues and prospects to be tackled in the future". This is the double goal of the workshop that the Ecumenism and Dialogue section of the National catechistic office will organise in Rome on Friday 4th April, to which the diocesan delegates for ecumenism and dialogue have been invited. "The problem of the relation with Islam says to SIR mgr. Vincenzo Paglia, president of the Commission of the Italian Bishops Conference for ecumenism and dialogue is not an abstract problem to be reduced to an academic debate". "The true problem is to review the different Islamic scenarios that exist in our country, in the respective regions and dioceses, and train the delegates in charge of dialogue". What are the most common real problems? "They range answers the bishop from the most delicate issues, such as mixed marriages, on which a special document was actually issued a few years ago by the Bishops Conference", "to the problem of a proactive action for peaceful cohabitation". "Exaggerations that could cause religious confusion, for instance offering places of worship, must be avoided". For the time being, there is no handbook with any guidelines in it about this issue. "This is explains mgr. Paglia – about establishing factual relations based on mutual respect, honesty and correctness".
