HOLLAND: ANTI-ISLAM FILM ON THE WEB. COUNCIL OF THE CHURCHES, "A DEPLORABLE CARICATURE"(2)

"The Churches – goes on the release – believe that a detailed analysis of the current politic scenario in some countries of the world could be more helpful for dialogue with Islam and for the development of a democratic society. In our society, we should give priority to solidarity, not to the opposition of the peoples". The Dutch Churches insist that "religion must not be seen as a means to instigate violence or suicide" and therefore they reject "any form of violence committed for religious reasons. Great importance is attached to the dignity of life. Everyone is reminded of such goal". In addition, the Council of the Churches thinks "there must be space for criticising any attitude that takes inspiration from religion – whether Christian or Muslim – but form is important too, and the best way to do it is through mutual dialogue. The Churches think that society must not be ruled by fearful feelings". "Wilders’ film", instead, offends what "is sacred for others. Such attitude – they conclude – can hardly be considered a basis for dialogue or integration".
