"Attacks from the Israeli air force and artillery against the Gaza Strip are taking place in careless contempt of the lives of the civilians": this has been reported by Amnesty International. "In the last few days, the Israeli attacks against Gaza killed over 75 Palestinians, including at least 10 children and civilians who had nothing to do with these fights states Malcolm Smart, director of the Middle East and Northern Africa program at Amnesty -. Israel is legally bound to protect the civilian population of the Gaza Strip. These military actions are out of all proportions and exceed the measures that the Israeli forces can legitimately take in response to the launch of rockets by the Palestinian armed groups". And in the meantime Amnesty asked the latter again to immediately stop launching rockets against the villages in the south of Israel and invoked "effective measures" from the leaders of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. "The illegal attacks of one side cannot be a justification for the breaches committed by the opposing side", comments Smart. In the meantime one and a half million Gaza residents are facing a humanitarian crisis due to the increasingly strict bans imposed by Israel. The hospitals, already struggling because of the lack of electricity, fuel and equipment, have to face a new wave of casualties, while "many patients, who cannot be moved to foreign hospitals, risk losing their lives".
