INTER-RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE: HOLY SEE, MEETING BETWEEN THE POPE AND "MODERATE" ISLAMISTS IN NOVEMBER

The meeting between the Pope and moderate Islam leaders will take place in Rome in November. The news was relayed today by the Papal Council for Religious Dialogue, which in a note states that the initiative is the fruit of the work carried out by a delegation of Islamic leaders that between yesterday and today have met in the Vatican following the "open letter" written by 138 Muslim Sages to the Christian leaders. A "Catholic-Muslim Forum" has also been established – states the Papal Ministry concerned – which will meet for the first time in Rome from 4 to 6 November. The Islamic delegation that was received yesterday and ended the meeting today was composed of 5 people. The November workshop will be attended by 24 religious leaders and experts from both religions, who will discuss: "Love of God, love of one’s neighbour"; on the first day, they will reflect on "theological and spiritual foundations" and on the second day on "human dignity and mutual respect". At the end of the meeting the participants will have a private audience with Pope Benedict XVI.
