After recalling that "the second American Missionary Congress celebrated in Guatemala in 2003 conceived a challenge to induce dioceses and vicariates to live their missionary commitments more intensely", and the commitment was strengthened "in the light of the conclusions of the Fifth Conference of the episcopate of Latin America and the Caribbean, in Aparecida" in 2007, Benedict XVI invited the Guatemalan bishops to go on following that direction. "I encourage you he said to continue the evangelizing mission of the church with renewed spirit, in the context of the current cultural changes and of globalization, giving a new vigour to predication and catechesis, proclaiming Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as foundation and reason for being for every believer". For the Pope, "the evangelization of culture is a priority task for the Word of God to become accessible to everyone, to get welcome in the mind and in the heart: be it the illuminating light and the purifying water, with the message of the Gospel bringing salvation to the whole mankind". The Pope also encouraged bishops, "through their example and pastoral zeal", to take special care in training priests, who are a "living invitation" for youth and adults "to dedicate oneself entirely to the Lord".
