"Behind politics is meta-politics, which, beyond the boundaries between the different sides, is the foundation of the projects and actions that all together tend to the accomplishment of the common good in Europe". This consideration, made by the bishops of Comece (Commission of the EU Bishops Conferences) which are ending their plenary meeting in Brussels today, is the starting point for a new appeal to give "a noble meaning to the building of the EU", despite the uncertainties, the difficulties and the scepticisms. The appeal was made after a discussion on the Lisbon Treaty, which, according to Comece, "calls us to reflect on the essential values that will have to realistically guide the future of the building of Europe through a more convinced adhesion of the citizens, and more effective policies aiming first of all at respecting human dignity and protecting the Creation".
