ENGLAND: PRIESTS IN WESTMINSTER FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT. A CAFOD CAMPAIGN

” “In Westminster for the environment: hundreds of priests will meet on April 23rd in Westminster from all over the United Kingdom to ask the British MPs to make the environmental legislation stricter. This is one of the initiatives organised by Cafod, the agency for aids to the Third World of the Catholic Church of England and Wales, according to which the poorest of the world will be the first to experience the devastating effects of global warming. According to Cafod, approximately 150,000 people die every year due to climate change, virtually all living in the developing countries. Cafod asks the MPs of Westminster to vote for increasing the carbon dioxide reduction target in the next legislation about climate change to at least 80% by 2050, instead of 60%, as stated by the law submitted by Parliament, and to include in the emissions also the emissions generated by international flights and by the navy. As to this, Cafod organised a week of protests to stop climate chaos, "Stop climate chaos week of action". 20 thousand notes of protests were sent to the MPs, asking them to take action. "We want to make sure the MPs will make the new environmental legislation as strict as possible", stated Vikki Mills, in charge of the campaign.
