EUROPE: APRIL 18TH, THE EUROPEAN DAY FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE SICK

” “The rights of the European citizens in the building of a common welfare: this is one of the main goals of the European Day for the Rights of the Sick, due on April 18th, which will be announced to the European press in a press conference in Rome tomorrow. The event, promoted by Active Citizenship Network (Acn), an European program of Cittadinanzattiva, will be an opportunity not only to present the hundreds of events that will take place in the 27 countries for the Day, but also to give a picture of the current scenario of health care in Europe, as seen by the citizens. Where do the European citizens who decide to have treatment in Italy come from? And in what regions do they choose to do it? What are the problems that drive more and more Italian citizens to go to have treatments abroad? And to what countries? Acn will try to give an answer to these and more questions through some symbolic stories and a survey of the waiting lists for the main diagnostic and surgical services conducted in 14 countries of the "old Europe". Speakers will include Teresa Petrangolini, secretary general of Cittadinanzattiva, Charlotte Roffiaen, director of Can, and Agnes Cser, deputy president of the Soc section of the European Economic and Social Committee.
