THE POPE IN THE USA: MESSAGE TO THE HEBREW FOR EASTER, "MEMORIAL OF FREEDOM AND REDEMPTION"

"A special greeting of peace" for the Hebrew community: Pope Benedict XVI addressed the Hebrew like that yesterday afternoon, in Washington, by sending them a message on the occasion of the Festival of Pesah (Hebrew Easter). By reasserting "the teaching of Vatican Council II on Catholic-Hebrew relationships" and "the commitment of the Church for dialogue", the Pope recalled that it is exactly owing to "this growth of trust and friendliness" that today "the Christians and the Hebrew may experiment the deeply spiritual character of Easter together in joy; it is a memorial of freedom and redemption". Then, the Holy Father confirmed the "spirit of opening up to the real collaboration opportunities which we see in front of us, while we are reflecting on the urgent necessities of our world and we are looking with compassion at the sufferings of millions of our brothers and sisters, wherever they are". In particular, he recalled, there is "hope for peace" in the Middle East and in the Holy Land. "May the memory of the God’s mercies – he hoped – which both Hebrews and Christians are celebrating in this time of feast inspire all the people in charge for the future of that region, where the events linked with God’s revelation really happened, and let them renew their efforts, especially by adopting new attitudes as well as a new heart purification". ” “
