The role of art and culture in the dialogue between the European populations and from the perspective of the European integration process: this is the subject that will be discussed tonight in Brussels during the second meeting promoted by the EU Commission, as part of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue programme. The event, promoted in cooperation with the European Forum for the Arts (Feap) and the European Culture Foundation (Fec), will be opened by a speech by the MEP Jan Figel’ and ended by the MEP Claire Gibault. Other speakers will include Jette Sandahl, director of the city museum of Copenhagen, and Ahmet Polat, a Turkish-Dutch photographer. "This is a meeting about culture and art in the continent explains Figel’ and about the dynamic and plural concept" of identity. The sequence of seven debates, promoted in the Belgian capital, is covered by the 2008 schedule: the first meeting had been held on March 5th on the relation between migration and integration. Another five meetings about religions in Europe, languages, education, the media and the workplace will follow.
