” ” The EU Commission will co-fund "several projects concerning society" in 2008 and 2009, under the Debate Europe project. Some initiatives implemented under Plan D will be confirmed and revived: for instance, online debates, MEPs visiting citizens and the mass media of the member states, discussions and workshops on European issues in the cities, information campaigns in the schools about the real Europe. In addition, an invitation will be published soon for submitting new projects that will receive EU funds. Debate Europe should also co-fund projects for a Europe-wide consultation of the citizens, run by civilian organisations; promote "nationwide measures to enable the citizens to debate their points of view and discuss them with the local decision-makers"; open dedicated websites; promote public conferences and campaigns in the schools and universities; create "European public areas in the capitals of the member states, in which the EU Commission and the EU Parliament will hold exhibitions, workshops and information campaigns about the European issues".
