CCEE-KEK: MUSLIM-CHRISTIANS, TWO DOCUMENTS AND ONE CONFERENCE IN OCTOBER

Two documents, one about violence events, in which the religious aspect has been involved, and the other one on the training of clergy and pastoral operators, on the consequences of the Muslim presence in the life of the Church in Europe, will be ready at the beginning of 2009. It was announced by the ultimate note of the meeting of the CCEE-KEK Committee for Muslim Relations in Europe (CMRE), which ended yesterday in Esztergom (Hungary). CMRE met also with some Muslims from different European countries to prepare a European Muslim Christian Conference together, which is taking place in Malines/Brussels on 20-23 October 2008, on the subject "Being European citizens and believers. Christians and Muslims as active partners in European societies". As for this date, the final note anticipated a few contents, already: "The Conference of Malines is opening with the presentation of the Christian and Muslim perspectives on the subject. Afterwards, the participants will work according to a seminary model on the following four subjects, the role of religions in the secular society, religion between institutions and personal faith, how do the Christians and the Muslims regard each other? How is it possible to promote respect and mutual understanding through education? And finally, building bridges: what are the next challenges which our communities have to face?". (To be continued)
