THE POPE IN THE USA: AT YANKEE STADIUM, "UNITY, FREEDOM AND PARTICIPATION" (2)

"Overcoming any separations between faith and life, by opposing the false gospels of freedom and happiness": it was the invitation addressed by the Pope to American believers, during the Mass at the Yankee Stadium in New York. Benedict XVI encouraged everyone "to reject the false dichotomy between faith and political life", since "no human activity, not even in temporal things, may be taken off the dominion of God". "This means – pointed out the Pope on illustrating the "challenge" launched to the United States in this way – acting to enrich the American culture and society with the beauty and the truth of the Gospel". "In our times, too, – noticed Benedict XVI – the Catholic community of this Nation was great in its prophetic account in defence of life, for education of the young, care for the poor, the sick and the foreigners among you. On that steady foundation, the future of the Church in America must begin to rise today, too". Then, there was an appeal "to encourage" the young, "the future of the Church": "May you pluck up courage to proclaim Christ and the unchanging truths based on Him: they are the truth rendering us free!". "They are the sole truths – explained Benedict XVI – which may assure us respect for the dignity and the rights of every man, woman and child in the world, including the most defenceless among human beings, the children in their mothers’ wombs who have not been born, yet".
