BENEDICT XVI: TO CAUCASIAN BISHOPS, "SUPPORTING CALLINGS AND THE FAMILY"

"Pray and make others pray that labourers will never be missing in the Lord’s vineyard; keep promoting calls to priesthood and to consecrated life", went on Benedict XVI, as he spoke to the bishops of the Caucasian region, whom he received in audience today. "It is essential – highlighted the Pope – that, in Armenia, in Azerbaijan and in Georgia, the future generations may rely on a holy clergy". "Be yourselves, first and foremost, the firm and wise guides of God’s People – exhorted Benedict XVI -; support the families that are its live cells". Families that, "because of the mentality imbued in society and inherited from the Communist era", find "quite a few difficulties and are marked by those wounds and by those attacks against human life that unfortunately can be found in so many other parts of the world". Hence his invitation to the bishops: "Take care, as most responsible for the family pastoral, of training the Christian couples" to "testify to the invaluable importance of the indissolubility and faithfulness of marriage", one "of the most valuable and most pressing duties of the Christian couples of this day and age". Finally, an acknowledgement for the charity work carried out in the region by religious and lay people, and the invitation to "regularly supervise the pastoral plans" aiming "to educating the consciences", with "special attention to the young".
