About 30,000 Spanish families are conscientious objectors to the subject "Education to citizenship", created by Zapatero’s government. This was announced yesterday, at a press conference, by some delegates of the movement against the subject, who also presented the website www.objetores.org, where they have published their claims. According to Leonor Tamayo, spokesperson for the Professionals for Ethics association, this fight "has nothing to do with politics, it is the parents’ fight to defend the rights acknowledged by the Spanish Constitution against the State’s claim to dictate moral education". Conscientious objectors report that not only in the regions that are run by Socialists, but also in some regions ruled by the Ppe, conscientious objectors are retaliated against. José Javier Solabre, spokesperson for the "Navarra educa en libertad" association, reports "pressures" against the parents, and the right to object is denied in La Rioja as well.
