CARD. BAÈKIS (LITHUANIA): "ONE OF THE FINEST EXPRESSIONS" OF GOD’S MERCY

An "attitude of deep faith, of full confidence in Jesus, is the prerequisite for our devotion of the Divine Mercy". This was recommended this morning by card. Audrys J. Baèkis, archbishop of Vilnius (Lithuania), during the World Apostolic Congress of the Divine Mercy, which is going on in Rome. "This devotion – highlighted the cardinal – is an invitation to strengthen one’s faith in Jesus Christ, in the embrace of the Church, which is embodied by deep prayer and the Sacraments". First of all, the Eucharist". Important is also "the Sacrament of reconciliation", which, according to card. Baèkis, is "one of the finest expressions of the Divine Mercy, a gift made to His Church". Such Sacrament contains the "encounter of the Divine Mercy with the meanness of the sinning man". Maybe this, added the cardinal, "is the Sacrament that best responds to the need of today’s man who asks for love. A Sacrament that is often under strain, which the encounter with the mystery of mercy can help rediscover".
