THE POPE TO THE UN: MGR. MIGLIORE TO SIR, "EXPECTATION IS GREAT AND FULL OF HOPE"

"Expectation is great and full of hope. The Pope comes first of all in his capacity as a moral authority. And that’s how one loves to look at the Pope, especially at a time which has such a cultural and social fragmentation and a political drift that can be find anywhere. It’s normal that in this context one turns to the moral authorities that can arouse a new political good will. And it is around the motto «Christ our hope» that the Holy Father developed his forthcoming apostolic journey". Benedict XVI’s visit to the UN (on 18th April) is presented to SIR by archbishop Celestino Migliore, apostolic nuncio and permanent observer of the Holy See to the UN. "Many UN executives and diplomats – states mgr. Migliore –, who follow and appreciate the clarity and fecundity of mind of the Holy Father, expect he will speak in the same line in which he has understood and expressed since the beginning of his papacy the great challenge of the century, that is, the relation-crisis between reason and faith. In particular, there’s great interest for his speech on the repercussions, potentials and developments that this crisis is having on international cohabitation, on the view of social and cultural relations, on the interpretation of human rights, of democracy, of intercultural and inter-religious dialogue".
