INTER-RELIGIOUS DIALOGUE: EPC, "FAITHS, AN IMPORTANT INCLUSION FACTOR" (2)

The EPC document being drawn up about the inter-religious dialogue of May 14th also includes a list of the events held by the communities and churches for an exchange between different faiths as well as to boost the social development of the European Union. The document mentions, for instance, the support given by Pope Benedict XVI to the establishment of the Catholic-Muslim Forum, which, after a preparatory workshop in March, will hold an opening summit in the Vatican in November, including a meeting with the Pontiff. In addition, the report by the European Policy Centre lingers on the work carried out by the Conference of European churches, the initiatives that bind Jews and Muslims and the recent "European Charter" promoted by the Muslim communities of the old continent. The list of speakers at the Residence Palace in Brussels will include: Nadine Iarchy, deputy president of the International Council of Jewish Women; Abduljalil Sajid, president of the Islamic Council for Religious and Racial Harmony of Great Britain; the Education MEP, Jan Figel’; the deputy president of the European Parliament, Mario Mauro.
