SPAIN: IPF, "PROTECT THE FAMILY", EVEN THOUGH THE PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION NEGLECTS IT

There is no consonance "between the Spanish people and the public administration" on the family. On the occasion of the Family Day, the Spanish Family Policy Institute (IPF) denounced this discrepancy through a survey published by IPF itself, according to which 73% of the Spanish regard the family as "the most important institution in society; 88.5% regard it as the most effective institution, and 95% the one which is more inclined to solve personal problems". On the other hand, "the Spanish administrations are the ones in Europe which help families to the lowest extent". The vice-president of IPF, Mariano Martínez-Aedo, stated that the crises and economic difficulties of the last few years "let the people rediscover the role played by the family in softening the problems of society". "The family is high value for society and a heritage for mankind, and must be defended and strengthened". Among the problems of the Spanish family, apart from lack of aid, IPF pointed out "increase in the number of abortions and divorces, decrease in the number of marriages, and family emptying, with a constant decrease in the number of people living together at home".
