BENEDICT XVI: TO THE FAMILY FORUM, "POLITICS SHOULD PLACE THE FAMILY AT THE CENTRE"

"A political action that wants to look ahead with vision cannot but place the family at the centre of its attention and its planning": this was said this morning in the Vatican by Pope Benedict XVI as he received the delegates of the associations of the Forum of Family Associations and the European Federation of Catholic Family Associations, that yesterday in Rome celebrated the "World Family Day" launched by the UN. In his speech, the Pope recalled that "this year, as you know, it is the 40th anniversary of the Encyclical Humanae vitae and the 25th anniversary of the promulgation of the Charter of Family Rights, presented by the Holy See on 22nd October 1983", highlighting that "the former strongly insists, going bravely against the prevailing cultural trend, on the quality of the bride and groom’s love, not manipulated by selfishness and open to life, the latter draws attention to those inalienable rights that enable the family, based on the marriage of man and woman, to be the natural cradle of human life". Then, he added that "your associations in this sphere can be an extremely convenient way to implement in the best possible way the spirit of the aforesaid Charter of Family Rights". (continued)
